Matting
Erosion control matting is generally made using organic materials such as jute, wood, coir (coconut husk), straw or a combination of these fibers. Sometimes a synthetic mesh or strand will be used to hold the matting together. The aim of this matting is to reduce the effect of erosion and to assist in the es-tablishment of the permanent vegetation. Different types of matting have varying uses and features, but all have similar benefits. As an alternative to natural materials, NorCal offers Geotextile Fabrics. These materials are used predominately in applications were the stabilization duration exceeds the life span of organic materials. The benefits of this service are:
- Absorb and break up the impact of rainfall
- Increase water infiltration
- Reduce runoff velocities
- Conserve soil moisture
- Moderate changes in soil temperature
- Offer a natural look

Construction Entrances
|

|
|
NorCal Environmental has the equipment to build top grade construction entrances to help reduce track out of material from your job site. We utilize various size rock and other material depending on needs of the individual site. If required we can install Geotextile Fabric as an additional barrier placed below the rock. This photo shows a complete entrance system including Rock, Geo-textile Fabric, Wattle and Matting. |
Silt Fencing
NorCal Environmental sells installs only the highest standard silt fence fabrics. Silt fences are designed specifically to reduce soil run-off from or into protected areas. When correctly installed, they function in a similar manner to a sediment basin in which water is allowed to filter through the fabric, this allows silt and sediment particles settle on the ground. This restricts the loss of soil from a site while permitting water to drain away efficiently. Construction fencing can help prevent damage to trees and areas which should not be disturbed during the construction process by clearly identifying them.
Wattle
The wattles imitate natural stabilization by reducing rate of flow, absorbing water and filtering sediment runoff. By trapping silt and seed, the wattles allow native vegetation and brush to begin to revegetate and restore root integrity within one year. Stabiliz-ation of the hillside will eventually transition to the re-formed growth as the wattles decay. The wattles also form a durable containment area to prevent polluted runoff from reaching surface waters. |

Storm Drain Inlet Protection
Storm drain inlet protection consists of a sediment filter or an impounding area around or upstream of a storm drain, drop inlet, or curb inlet. Storm drain inlet protection measures temporarily pond runoff before it enters the storm drain, allowing sediment to settle. Some filter configurations also remove sediment by filtering, but usually the ponding action results in the greatest sediment reduction. Every storm drain Inlet receiving sediment-laden runoff should be protected.
Large amounts of sediment may enter the storm drain system when storm drains are installed before the upslope drainage area is stabilized, or where construction is adjacent to an existing storm drain. In cases of extreme sediment loading, the storm drain itself may clog and lose a major portion of its capacity. To avoid these problems, it is necessary to prevent sediment from entering the system at the inlets.
